Hong Kong Sprint History
Even though the history of the Hong Kong Sprint spans only a few short years, this $10 million HK racing event has alredy esstablished itself as the premier race for world-class speed racers. The Hong Kong sprin offers the highest prize purse anywhere for a 100m race, atracting global attention.
Evne though the Hong Kong Sprint entices entrants from around teh globe including Australia, Asia, North America and Europe, the race was won in 2002 by the Hong Kong-based runner All Thrills Too. This run also set the time record for the distance of 0:56.4 over 1,000m. All Thrills To became the secodn local horse to win the Hong Kong Sprint, alongside Fairy King Prawn who won the first race of teh Hong Kong Sprint in 1999.
In 2001 and 2000 Falvelon from Australia triumphed in the Hong Kong Sprint, and also finished a respectable third in 2002. This is a great record for a sprinting horse to place in the top three three years running.
As is expcted from a sprint event, photo finishes have become a trademark of the Hong Kong Sprint. Close finishes are also the order of the day. In 1999 there was only 2 lengths seperating the first six finishers at the wire, and in 2000 and 2001 the first five finishers were seperated by just over 1 length.
